If only I could meet my prince, Essie thought. Like the fairy tales she’d read in one of the books she’d borrowed. Young maidens were always rescued by handsome princes, or at least well-meaning young men. Where was her prince?
Gus wished she could have her happy ending. And, by gum, she deserved it. But there wasn’t anything he could do to help her. Nothing he could do to make some man swoop in and sweep her off her feet. But neither of them realized what God had in store for them.
It's 1862, and four orphaned sisters find themselves in the bustling city of Yankton in the Dakota Territory when one of them accepts a marriage proposal from a young man who needs to marry to stake a homestead claim. In this clean Western romance series, author Jenny Creek Tanner weaves a heartwarming tale of the love the sisters have for each other, and the love they find with the rugged men of the homestead prairies of Dakota.
˃˃˃ Meet Essie Cummins. . .
The youngest Cummins sister loves to read. Her mind is always in the clouds, daydreaming about the books she reads, and she yearns for a handsome prince to come into her life and sweep her off her feet. Her three sisters have found their own princes, and she wonders if she will ever find her true love.
˃˃˃ Meet Gus McNeal. . .
Wounded in battle in the Civil War, his limp is a constant reminder of the pain of war. But it hides a pain deeper than just a physical pain. He yearns for someone to love, but he thinks his gruff manner and the scars he bears from war are too much to overcome for any woman to love him, especially Essie Cummins.
Will Essie discover that the attentions of a handsome cowboy aren't what they appear?
Will Gus' desire to protect Essie grow into a realization that true love can overcome the scars of war?
And will the both learn that God always finds a way to work everything for good?

Homestead HOPE Essie Story Dakota Mail Order Brides Book 4 edition by Jenny Creek Tanner Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
I would like to offer a different view of this book than the reviews that were disappointed in this book's content, for I think it appropriate to the characters. To enjoy this book and realize its potential, I would suggest reading all 4 books in order this book being the last in the series. she is portrayed almost as having an angelic childlike quality that she maintains even as an adult. Her sisters have protected her from life, as some would say spoiling her, however Essie maintains a sweetness and innocence from their care instead. Gus is a tough character that is in each book yet leaves you wanted to know more about him, which is quickly made up for as we learn those details in book 4. I agree that this book would make a much interesting and entertaining, longer novel, however; I find it delightful even in this shortened form. I must say, however, that it leaves the reader wanting more...more stories, longer stories, as this reader did not want t end this series so quickly. I hope to read more from this author soon.
Gus McNeal would never admit he had strong feelings for Essie the youngest of the four sisters who came to Dakota, when his best friend Russell sent for a mail order bride. Essie was the last single one and she was always day dreaming and getting in trouble when her mind was on other things. Gus walked with a cane from a war injury and felt he was not a whole man to tell her of his love for her. She kissed him after he rescued her and he knew it was love for him and she felt it too. I will let you read for yourself to see if they get together or will not be Mad the handsome cowboy who rescued her from a run away horse.
Cute series. I enjoyed all the 4 books and loved how they all found their mates.
Keep me going
Just ok nothing to write home about.
A good basis for a story, however it is weak as it is written. I will return this one for a refund
This was the last book in this series and was as enjoyable as the first three. Yes they could be read as a story each, but it was so much better to read them in order.
I loved all the 4 sisters lives and them all finding love and a Husbands .. I couldn't put either one of them down ,, they were all to short.. The only thing I didn't like about these books you had to pay for each of the Sisters story's ..
